Southern Cross Marathon Completed and final marathon in Antarctica delayed
Kim Pursley has finished the Southern Cross marathon in Puentas Arenas, Chile. She only has one more marathon to go and is struggling from an upper respiratory cold that has weakened her immune system, but she is taking medication. Here is a note from Kim on what is going on while she is attempting to get to Antarctica for the final marathon:
- 35 of us joined Marathon Adventures on a quest of a lifetime – to cover 7 marathons, in 7 days on 7 continents.
- To date, 35 of us completed 6 marathons and/or half marathons, in 6 consecutive days on 6 continents. A feat in and of itself.
- This morning we boarded our flight to Antarctica to finish our Quest. But Antarctica – the magnificent beast that she is – had other plans in store for us.
- I have been to Antarctica and I speak from experience. The weather in this part of the world can change on a dime.
- Our pilots are required to have 800 meters of visibility in order to land our plane in Antarctica. However, Antarctica is only willing to offer us 200 meters of visibility today. To dangerous. We simply can not risk life and limb to land and run today.
- And so Antarctica makes us wait. She may make us wait indefinitely. She may provide us with a window of opportunity, such as today, and than steal it away from us in the blink of an eye or she may offer that opportunity again and we will land and run.
